Art Expressions Gallery Presented ‘Art
Talk’ on Infrared Photography by Monte Nagler on
Jan. 22
Photographer
Monte Nagler discussed infrared photography and his photographic career
which had taken him to exotic locales around the world at an “Art Talk” and
book signing on January 22, 2008.
Infrared
photography captures the long wavelengths of light that are invisible to the
human eye. The photographic technique, which was introduced in the early 1900s
with film cameras, produces dramatic shots in which green vegetation turns
light and blue sky turns dark. Nagler, experienced in both film and digital infrared photography, discussed
converting a regular digital camera into an infrared camera. A variety of his
infrared photographs were on display.
Nagler’s
photographs, which have won numerous awards, are found in many private and
public collections including the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Grand Rapids
Art Museum, the University of Michigan Museum of Art, the Center for Creative
Photography in Tucson; The Brooklyn Museum; Dayton Art Institute; Nikon
International; The Ford Motor Company; General Electric Corporation; Daimler
Chrysler Corporation; General Motors Corporation; IBM and President George
Bush.
Nagler,
who began photographing seriously after studying with Ansel Adams in 1979, is the author of four highly successful
photography books: "How To Improve Your Photographic Vision",
"Statements of Light", "Monte Nagler's Michigan" and
"Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam - A Photographic Journey".
In
addition to many awards and acknowledgements Monte has received, the State of Michigan Senate and
House have honored him with proclamations for his contributions to fine art
photography.
