Art Expressions Gallery Presents Chasing the Light:  New Works by Robin Hall and Robert A.

Hansen October 18 through December 1

Artists’ Reception on Thursday, October 18

Art Expressions Gallery is presenting Chasing the Light:  New Works by Robin Hall and Robert A. Hansen, featuring more than 40 oil paintings and fine art photographs, Oct. 18 through Dec. 1.  (The gallery will host an artists’ reception on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.)
While Hall explores a wide range of subject matter – everything from landscapes and seascapes to architectural paintings -- her paintings always reflect her passion for the ever-changing influence and confluence of light.
“Robin’s paintings are alive with dimension and depth,” said gallery director Patricia Smith. “She sometimes uses a palette knife, giving the painting added texture and atmosphere,” Hall’s work has been exhibited at a number of museums in California and Arizona, including The Mission San Juan Capistrano, Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, the Pasadena Historical Museum, the Laguna Art Museum and the Laguna Festival of the Arts, the Phippen Museum in Prescott, Arizona and the Pasadena Museum of California Art.  She is an artist member of the California Art Club, an organization noted for its nationally acclaimed painters and sculptors.
Hansen has combined a 25-year career in commercial photography with fine art pursuits.  For the past ten years he has been photographing missions, haciendas, churches and the Mayan people of southern Mexico. The exhibition will include black and white platinum/palladium prints and silver prints that resulted from these photographic pilgrimages, as well as large-scale color varnished pigment prints on watercolor paper.
“These trips initially focused on photography, but soon evolved into spiritual journeys that have helped to illuminate and clarify my artistic pathway,” said Hansen.
Henry Rasmussen, publisher and editor of Black & White Magazine, says of Hansen:   “He has the heart of a searcher, the eyes of a poet, the hands of a craftsman – traits manifested in sensitive portraits of faces marked by time and tradition, panoramic scenes of ancient ruins with their aging stones illuminated by evening sun, intimate depictions of dark and mysterious corners of spiritual spaces.”
Hansen has had numerous solo and group exhibitions at museums, galleries and corporations.   He has exhibited at the Festival of the Arts, Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach annually since 1978 and his work has been on view at the Brooks Institute Gallery, The Laguna Museum, and the Irvine Fine Arts Center.  His fine art photography is part of many corporate and personal collections in the United States, Mexico and Germany.  His book, Yucatán Passages, A photographer’s pilgrimage through southern Mexico, was published in 2004 by Laguna Wilderness Press. It will be available for sale at the gallery.
